Operation Deadlock (2022)
The Sahranian Government on Lingor has struggled for years to maintain control over the island. The well-equipped but ill-trained military is riddled with corruption and incompetence, struggling to subdue drug cartel and de-facto pirates on the island and have in time sparked a revolution that has effectively taken over most of the island.
Concerned about the local population, IDAP responded with a humanitarian mission to the island with the promise of the government that the local police force will protect them. For a while, their presence was respected by the cartel but such peace was short lived and IDAP personnel found themselves being targeted on a regular basis. The police, unable to cope with the protection detail, restricted their work to the north side of the island. Finally, a bloody skirmish in the north in a village of Jodido where the cartel killed over 20 civilians, effectively leveled the village where also 6 IDAP workers and 2 police officers lost their lives, prompted the UN to deploy its peacekeepers into the region albeit they can only work in government-controlled areas or its immediate vicinity. This sparked an outrage amongst the cartel and responded with more attacks. The government then pleaded to NATO for assistance in subduing the cartel.
Now NATO is deploying its own peacekeeping force into the region. Unknown to anyone else, together with this peacekeeping force UNITAF is deploying as a NATO sub-contractor. Whilst the peacekeeping force standing orders are to aid the government forces to regain control of the island via peacekeeping, humanitarian, and other missions, UNITAFs orders are to dig deeper into the mystery of the private owned research facilities on the island.
