The island nation of Akarya became an economic powerhouse due to its natural resources but it also sold uranium to Russia and the Middle East. NATO sent a battlegroup to Akarya to try and persuade the government to stop the production of uranium.

Situation

The Republic of Akarya, a small island nation on the East of the Black Sea, gained sudden prominence when they discovered the vast riches of the island. The Akaryan government industrialized the island, and the republic became an economic powerhouse by exporting natural resources, such as lumber and various minerals. Amongst them, weapons-grade uranium and oil have also been sold to several Eastern bloc buyers. NATO has recently learned of this via a series of covert intelligence reports intercepted between the Akaryan government and the Russian Federation.

Monitoring the situation, NATO grew concerned that the uranium was being traded with the Russians and also sold to the Middle Eastern nations. The Akaryan and Russian governments denounce any involvement in any trade deal involving uranium and oil. Political agendas and mistrust fueled a dangerous game of brinkmanship, and the island became a pawn in a larger geopolitical chessboard.

A NATO battlegroup was assembled and sent off towards the island to try and persuade the Akaryan government to stop the production of uranium. At the same time, a trade embargo was placed on the island, but the Akaryan government kept sending shipments.
