Operation Northblood (2028)

Operation Northblood (2028)

Winter–early spring,(2028). NATO’s eastern flank is stable — until it isn’t. The Nordic countries have formed the Nordic Defence Alliance (NDA), an extension of their cooperation under NORDEFCO. Russia, under economic pressure and isolated diplomatically, begins asserting control over “strategically vital” Nordic territories.

OPERATION BACKGROUND

By the close of 2027, Europe is in a fragile balance. NATO’s eastern flank has been calm for nearly two years, no large-scale military incidents, no incursions into alliance territory. In the far north, however, a quieter game is being played.

The Nordics, sharing deep ties in culture, economy, and security, have taken a historic step: the creation of the Nordic Defence Alliance (NDA). It’s an evolution of their cooperation under NORDEFCO, but with teeth. Shared command structures, joint Arctic training, and rapid deployment forces stationed along their northern borders.

Publicly, the NDA is “defensive in nature.” Privately, it is intended to present a united Nordic front against Russian pressure in the Arctic.

In Moscow, the situation is grim. Energy revenues have dropped sharply after global markets shifted away from Russian exports. Sanctions have drained reserves. Diplomatic channels to the West are nearly frozen.

The Kremlin’s response is to look outward. The Arctic, rich in minerals, gas, and shipping routes, becomes the centre of Moscow’s rhetoric. State media begins broadcasting claims of “illegally occupied Russian Arctic territory”, pointing to the Svalbard archipelago, Finnish Lapland, and parts of northern Norway.

CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES

  • Maintain border security
