Operation Sapphire (2006)

The Region of Kapaulio, after a long period of Civil Wars and Turmoil between the population, seems to have finally settled into a new Government. The US, intrigued in claiming a stake in the resource-rich Soils of Kapaulio, have agreed to send a Battalion of Army Rangers to aid in training local Forces and help maintain Stability in the region.

Background

The Region of Kapaulio, after a long period of Civil Wars and Turmoil between the population, seems to have finally settled into a new Government. This shaky peace is upheld by the local Forces, the Kapaulian Defense Force, KDF for short. Due to them being newly-formed, they requested aid in training their Forces in different fields. The US, intrigued in claiming a stake in the resource-rich Soils of Kapaulio, have agreed to send a Battalion of Army Rangers to aid in training local Forces and help maintain Stability in the region. After arriving on the ground and establishing a Base of Operations, the Situation gradually worsens, with a lot of the more remote population seeing this development as the local Forces “selling out”, leading to cells of armed Rebels picking up Arms and organizing against the KDF. Many of Kapaulio’s rural areas have been successful in driving out the KDF, using Guerrilla Tactics and a vast smuggling network to supply themselves. Their Warfare has made it difficult to locate and asphyxiate these cells, leaving many disheartened. In the midst of Political Conflict and the Interest of their own Country, how will the US Forces conduct themselves.

Friendly Forces:

The Kapaulian Defense Force, KDF, is the local Armed Forces with its own Police Force, under command of the local Government. Their equipment consists of a mix of NATO surplus, such as American Gear, mixed with Famas Rifles supplied by the French. Vehicles consist of older East-Bloc LAVs and Supply vehicles, with US Humvees and other various pieces of kit scrounged from whatever willing Seller. Their main Tasking at the moment is to keep the Urban Areas clear of Rebels, as vast parts of the Rural Areas have been seized by the Rebels.

Enemy Forces:

In the wake of turmoil stemming from the recently conducted elections, many of the Tribes in the rural areas have stepped up and taken their stance against the Government, which they consider to be too “West” and unfairly elected. Their equipment consists in large parts of old, left behind Soviet Weapons and pieces of Kit. They also do not shy away from modifying their civilian vehicles to fit their needs, on land or in the water. Many of these Tribes have bound together, although their end goal is at best, vague.

Tasking:

  • Assisting Kapaulian Defense Forces in driving out Resistance Cells
  • Getting in good standing with the local populace.
  • Training KDF Forces to increase their effectiveness.
  • Ensure the US Goal of claiming land is fulfilled.

Resupply:

The KDF holds an Airport in the North-West of the Island, through which large amounts of Supplies can be brought in, to either aid in our Operations, supply the Locals, or replace defective equipment.

ROE:

  • The Civilian populace is to be protected from any hostile factions, and according to KDF Reports, the Guerilla Forces have shown Aggression in persuading villages and tribes to aid them.
  • KDF Forces are not experienced in Warfare, and are thus to be instructed by UNITAF. With rising Competency, High Command hopes to regain control of the island.

Fire Support:

Due to Security Concerns, Fixed-Wing assets have been moved to an Aircraft Carrier offshore of Kapaulio, holding on Standby.
