Target Reference Points (TRPs) are pre-planned, easily identifiable locations used by pilots, Forward Air Controllers (FACs) and Forward Observers to coordinate positions for Close Air Support and Fire Support Missions. They provide a shared reference system, allowing rapid and accurate communication without relying on grids. TRPs are placed on prominent, recognisable terrain features (such as road junctions, buildings, hilltops, or bridges) that are visible from both air and ground. Each is given a standardised label in accordance with FM / BS-802 to ensure clarity.
